The Earth Trusteeship Platform Asia-Pacific is an independent platform for visionary and professional exchanges on Nature Rights, Global Citizenship and reclaiming “the commons”. The maxim of Earth Trusteeship simply states: “all global citizens are equal trustees of the Earth, in the interest of the wellbeing of future generations”.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres states: There is no single “overarching normative framework” that sets out rules and principles of general application in international environmental law – Report of UN Secretary-General ‘Gaps in International Environmental Law and Environment-Related Instruments: Towards a Global Pact for the Environment’ (A/73/419). The School for Wellbeing Studies and Research launched an “Appeal” to include Earth Trusteeship in the discussion on the Global Pact for the Environment (see: “Appeal”).
The School for Wellbeing is happily celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The first activity we organised was a public lecture by Nobel Laureate Joseph Stiglitz at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangkok (leading picture above, 2009). The “school” was founded 20 August 2009 by three partners: the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, the Centre for Bhutan & GNH Studies, Thimphu, Bhutan, and the Sathirakoses Nagapradipa Foundation (SNF), Thailand. SNF was established by Right Livelihood Award Laureate Sulak Sivaraksa in 1968. Ajarn (= teacher in Thai) Sulak is the Patron of the School for Wellbeing. In 2015 the Royal University of Bhutan (RUB) joined the partnership and in 2018 the School for Wellbeing became the 9th campus of the Right Livelihood College. The School for Wellbeing is a founding partner of the Earth Trusteeship Platform.
The School for Wellbeing celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special forum concluding the annual Chulalongkorn University Right Livelihood Summerschool (CURLS), 7 – 22 July 2019. The Earth Trusteeship Forum will be held 19 – 21 July 2019 and it is titled: Nature Rights, Global Citizenship and ‘reclaiming the commons’: the Rise of Earth Trusteeship.
Ajarn Sulak recently celebrated his 86th birthday.
The Earth Trusteeship Platform offers open, decentralized, “multi-polar” and independent creative space for persons and organisations motivated to explore Earth Trusteeship as an innovative principle of governance and (local, international) law, able to matching the challenges of the 21st century and the wellbeing of future generations.
“Nothing less than a paradigm shift will do” stated economist Joseph Stiglitz in 2009. Since, little progress has been made: environmental destruction, economic inequality and lack of direction (cultural regression) continues ruining the perspectives of future generations.
Young people do not accept any longer this irresponsible lack of progress towards transformation.
Earth Trusteeship initiatives try to addresses the urgent need for co-designing paradigm shift with a critical and holistic perspective on (international) environmental law and ecosystem restoration.
The School for Wellbeing contributes to the open Earth Trusteeship Platform from an Asia – Pacific angle.
